GOODENIA RAINFOREST PICNIC AREA

Public BBQ

A hidden cool-climate rainforest picnic area reached by about eight kilometres of unsealed road, generally graded but rough in places, fine in a small car when dry and less so after rain, with some visitors preferring not to attempt it without a four-wheel drive. What waits is worth it: a lovely short walk down a few steps to a stream where ferns grow in abundance, well signposted, taking about forty minutes. Lyrebirds are often about and the birdlife generally is excellent. There are barbecues, a drop toilet and picnic tables at the trailhead. Watch your footing, as the track is laced with tree roots, and be aware that large limbs have come down across the creek. There is no phone coverage at all, so plan accordingly.
